Default More tailcam! "Ditchin' The Wingdog"

I've been out of town for most of the last 2 months, so there's been a severe lack of output from Groucho & Tanya Films. Last weekend I had my first "play" time in a while, so, of course, I shot some video.

This is my first video with both the tailcam & a bullet camera in the cockpit. I planned it as a formation flight with a friend's Citabria. About 15 minutes into our flight, the Citabria had some engine issues & we had to cut the formation stuff short (pilot/plane ok). I snuck back out later & shot some single-ship acro.

Sorry about the cheesy music (it's royalty free). If you happen to own a copy of Nickleback's song "Rockstar," hit play on that 10 seconds into my video.

Check out "Ditchin' The Wingdog" here: http://www.thedukes.org/rv/video.html

Enjoy!

Default Most Excellent!

I love your style Groucho - fluid yet dynamic - absolutely engrossing video...can't wait for the next installment.

You'll have to meet up with us at Big Bend next time - I think you'd enjoy the terrain....

Default Groucho

Groucho, thanks for the super high quality video. That looks like too much fun, you really need to stop or you are going to push me over the edge and cost me a lot of money! By the way, how does your friend like the Citabria?

Great Video,

I start on my tail kit next week, I will need to research the site to find out what I will need to do while I am building the VS to make it easier to install the tail cam. But who knows by the time I am finished and ready to fly there will be better systems out.

Thanks guys. Too kind.

Paul- I shot some formation, more acro & low level stuff yesterday with a friend's Velocity. It's decidedly NOT an acro machine, so the formation stuff isn't all that interesting, except that it looks like his plane is flying AT ME the whole time. It'll take me a little time to edit that stuff down. I want to try some different stuff with the editing next time, so it'll take a bit more work.

Bill- He LOVES his Citabria. It has a fixed pitch metal prop driven by an O-235, so the experience in it is quite different than the RV. He says that for pretty much any maneuver he has to dive to get a good entry speed. It's tough to fly formation off of since it'll only do about 100mph in level flight & it's drag is way higher than the RV's. He was out at my hangar today working on his stranded plane. Hopefully it'll get fixed soon so we can finish our video shoot!

Geico- Goose bumps, wow. What part of the video...I'll make some notes for the future!

Garrie- If you make the fiberglass vertical tail tip removable, it'd make the future addition of a tailcam easier. Mine glass is riveted in, so I just cut it back & built up the mount for the camera in the existing tip. There are some pictures of the process at the tailcam link on my site.

As Guy can attest, it's much better to Nickleback. If anyone has further suggestions for music for me to "not" put video to, please let me know.

Here's a sneak peak of some of the footage from the next video. I sent the Velocity home & did some play down low. Chasing my shadow: http://www.thedukes.org/rv/video/LowNStuff.wmv

Hey Bryan,

Great video! You may have already answered this question before, but what video editing software do you use?

Thanks,

Dave

Thanks! I use Pinnacle Studio Ultimate version 11. I bought it when it first came out & it was just under $100. It's not as good as Adobe Premiere, but a ton cheaper. For starters, Windows Movie Maker is free & does more than most people will ever use. Studio is a bit of a computer hog, but I like it.

On a similar note, my computer motherboard just died last night, so I'm on the hunt for a new one. It'll now be a couple weeks at least before I'm able to dedicate some time for more video editing. Although, it'll go faster with the new motherboard, processor & RAM.
