Default Exhaust repair Knoxville

Hi guys

I live in the Knoxville area and need my exhaust welded, I would appreciate any recommendations as I am new to the area, a google search did not turn up much.

Default Pics?

You would likely get more input with a picture or two and type of system. Even if you dont know the type, likely a viewer will. Most systems are made up of several pieces that are slip jointed together, and will require some disassembly to facilitate welding.May be easiest to send off to someone.

Thanks Bill. It’s broken off at the flange where it attaches to the cylinder, it’s a crossover 4 into 2 System and I may try to find a used one. I had to leave for work so I cannot get photos, the goal was to find a shop that knows how to weld Inconel, or whatever the exhaust is made of.

I have a crossover 4 into 2 on my lancair that repeatedly cracked at the flange of #4. After welding it a couple times we ended up with the additional strength added as seen in the pic. 1st pic I have uploaded to the site; a great addition.
The guy I use isn't an aircraft specialist but knows how to weld. He's in Elizabethton TN.

Default Check with Craig at Vetterman

Gary,

The first time my exhaust broke at the flange a local (SKILLED) car guy welded it. Looked beautiful. When I found the same flange had then cracked again I sent it to Craig at Vetterman Exhaust. Craig welded and reinforced the broken area. He apologized that it took him 2 days to do the repair, something about his wife giving birth to new baby..... Each repair cost about $20 as I recall.

Regards,

Thank you for the suggestions gentlemen, Elizabethton is doable for me to drive and Larry Vetterman is first class, I will see what’s going to work when I get home.

Default Picture of Vetterman’s repair

Vetterman’s welded a pair of half circular reinforcements when repairing my exhaust flange.

Send it back to Vetterman, their repairs are very, very good. It may take a day or two longer but anything else may well turn out to be only temporary.
