In the past when wood props were far more popular, there was no universally accept standard hub thickness adopted by all of the different prop makers. It seemed they all just did what the wanted and then builders had to make a spacer of the appropriate thickness (if needed) to put the fwd bulkhead at the proper position.
I am not aware of any situation where the prop was too thick for the Vans standard fixed pitch spinner.
