Default Sealant around step and skin?

Getting ready to install the steps for the final time.

Are people putting sealant around the steps where they meet the skin on the outside? If not, what prevents water from getting inside?

Thx/
Rob

It's a fairly close fit. I don't think any perceivable water will get in there. You could seal it if you really wanted too though.

If you drill straight through the step holes as they talk about in the plans, you get nice drain holes directly underneath the step as well. So, on the off chance a bit of water did get in, it would drain out pretty quick.

I'll be using sealant between my step flange and skin. In addition to keeping water out, lots of load on the skin when you use the step.
