Aveo Zip Tip Assistance

Howdy everyone. I Have the Aveo ZT3 tips for my -7. I am getting ready to install these tips to the wings. In the nose area of the tip, along the edge where it will attach to the wings, there is a step where there are two layers of fibreglass that creates a 1 /8" gap between the layers. This will crush down/ crack when screwed, riveted to the wing. I have pictures but can't post them here, but can send via email to those interested.

How did you guys with these tips handle this gap when attaching to the wings? Damien at Aveo advised to fill with epoxy...curious what others may have done.
