Moeller gauge is also used in the ELSA. See section 37.

I also covered the holes of the sight gauge and installed the Moeller gauge after there were some reports about leaking sight gauges. Mods were done before before Van's implemented the Moeller gauge.

I thinkI?d rather have the volume of the float in gas. You can sound your tank during preflight with a flexible piece of the stuff used for the brake line.
