Default Engine Pre-heater

So now that winter is over thought I?d give you a little feedback on the Twin Hornet 22 Preheater. Worked great. Simple. Just shove it in your oil door and put a couple blankets over the cowl. I was seeing consistent 65 degree engine temps at start up in 30-40 degree outside air temps.

Sure. But it was a cheaper, didn't have to install it, and it heats the whole engine compartment. Not a contest here, just saying - it's simple.

A sump heater is 1/2 the price of a TwinHornet 22, it installs in an hour, and is always attached and ready to go. They also heat the entire engine compartment.

Yea, but can you through it your other airplane, or into your cockpit onto you seat? So there. Your move. LOL

Most sump heaters have a built-in auto-land function...

I have to agree with Tacco, I have made units similar with a built in Thermostat, the Beauty is that you heat the whole engine with no cold spots. When you heat the oil with a pan heater the Moisture in the oil Creates condensation on any of the cold parts which include the case the cam and parts of the crank. I believe this is a better way to heat your engine!
FYI you should cover your prop with some form Of insulation to keep the prop acting as a heat sink.

Looks nice and simple. Did you try it in cooler temps (like 10-20F?). Was your plane in a hangar?

Thanks for sharing.

These also work well and are 1/2 the price of EZ heater pads.
