Strobe and position light replacement
I'm thinking of replacing my powerpack strobe/position wingtip lights with LEDs. There are many choices out there and I'm looking for anyone's advice who had done a retrofit on a -9 wingtip. Cost, time and any gotchas encountered.
Thanks,
David

I have Aveo lights and am very happy with them so far. No electrical noise.

FlyLED
I would also recommend FlyLED's. Get the Works kit, which will include Nav/Strobe and LED landing/taxi lights. They are very bright lights and draw limited current. Paul is a great guy and has great products.
You can order them from FlyBoys Accessories which are here in the states, so they will arrive swiftly and you won't have any problems with customs as Paul is in Melbourne Australia. Both FlyBoys and FlyLEDs are advertisers here on VAF.
Same price from either one.
FlyLEDs link for the Works is here......

And the FlyBoy Accessories link for the Works is here......

There will be a little assembly and soldering to do, but they come with good directions. Good luck.

FAA approved
Thought I read somewhere that strobe and nav lights had to be FAA approved even on an Experimental Amateur Built.
Anybody, thoughts??

They do not need to be ?approved? but they do need to meet the standard.

I bought Paul's FlyLED's - "The Works" I have them assembled and tested on the bench and will be installing them in a couple of weeks. So far, I really like them. I'll document the install process as best I can and post some pictures here.
Paul has been great help via email. I purchased direct from down under. I think it was during one of his free shipping sales.

Strobe and position light requirements for night flight are identical for certified and experimental aircraft. I guess that makes sense
A lot of advertised lights don't comply with or haven't been tested to these requirements and can legally only be used to enhance visibility during daylight
There's a significant price increase for the ones which have been shown to comply with FAA requirements
