Grind it, baby!
You may find you'll need to grind/trim BOTH the bushing and the tube at the bottom of the stick. My -8 instructions, IIRC, talks about the "Clovis", as you call it, being angled, just like yours is, in your picture, but this was on purpose. The bushing was to be ground (grinded?) at a matching angle at the ends so that it would help prevent it from rotating when the bolt is tightened.
