Ottawa - St.Catharines - Thunder Bay (PnP)

Early morning of June 22nd, we flew a Canadian Wings of Rescue (pilots and paws) mission to deliver a hawk to Thunder Bay and return with an owlet to St.Catharines (near Niagara Falls).

About 1280 nm (2370 km) in one day (Saturday)

11 hours of flight time on Saturday, with a 1h20 return to Ottawa from St.Catharines on Sunday. Amazing weather. "Severe clear" all the way.

In the days prior to launch the weather picture was much less definite. Glad the weather gods cooperated.

Those are what I would call "light" passengers, especially if they opted to flap their wings a bit in their carriers! :-)

That's a good run Alfio. I don't mind to do this type of transport. Is it all P-and-P or there is other organization? Can you point me in right direction?

Well, the photo was taken before the owlet got a ride. You should have seen him after the 5 hour flight! :-)

That hawk does look big, but surprising light to carry. His design is like Vans aircraft design philosophy ... build it light.

Weather god were definitely in our favor. Last we tried traveling west via Thunder Bay we had to stop in Sault Ste-Marie for the night due to weather.

The organization was called PnP Canada, borrowing part of the name from the USA organization. Something happened and they had to change names. They chose Canadian Wings of Rescue. Not sure of the issues, but the site is here:

CWR provides a link between the different animal welfare organizations and the pilots.

Canadian missions tend to be much longer distances, and I have not seen relays here. I believe the missions are shorter in the US. We try to do at least one a year. It is most satisfying.
