Default gear leg fairing help please?

When installing the hinges in the gear leg fairing the instructions say that you can see through the fairing to the hinge and see where to drill the holes. Well the new fairings are not see through and I was wondering if anyone has any tips on how to line up the hinge right so when the holes are drilled on each side of the fairing the hinge goes together properly.

I believe the newer kits are supposed to include little metal balls that are magnetized, to help with locating holes.
