I?ve used the Ford tractor industrial gray from Tractor Supply and it?s pretty good paint for rattle can, but the color isn?t very close to the powder coat I got from Vans.

I discovered some surface rusting going on in patches underneath the white (ok, "gray") powder-coat on my gear legs, which surprised me since they've been in careful storage for years and only now got assembled to the airframe. I sanded it off and recoated with a white epoxy rattle-can enamel from True Value hardware. Surprisingly close match. I don't recall the brand but it was nothing exotic.

That's exactly what I did. Rustoleum Gloss White is a pretty close match...works well!

Been there done that did the research. This is the exact paint formula Van's uses for powder coating.
https://www.lvppaints.com/
PFW510S9-P3 PFW510S9 Dupont Touch Up Paint - Sky White - 2 Oz Bottle
Comes with small brush applicator. Nice prices too. I think I paid like $9 bucks.

Thanks for the link to a neat site...
https://www.lvppaints.com/Federal-St...n-_p_6657.html
They can mix acrylic lacquer 4 oz aerosol cans of any Federal Standard color for $10.
This should be good for the RV guys considering military paint schemes who want to see color samples over larger areas than that on a couple of square inches of paint chip card. Once you have a Federal Standard color number any paint shop can make it by the gallon for you.

I thought the Van's powdercoat was RAL 7035, which LV Paints has (under "RAL"), and it's called "Light Grey".

This is what Vans pubishes...
POWDER COATED PARTS: Older gray parts are Cardinal brand, color GR-230.More recent white parts are Cardinal brand, color T009-WH111 90% gloss. An equivalent Sherwin Williams code is PWS9-40002. A Dupli-Color applicator is also available from some auto parts stores: part code NG CC 362.
https://www.vansaircraft.com/pdf/paint_brands.pdf
EDIT to fit in with the posted quote...
GR230 is the same as RAL 7035
http://www.cardinalpaint.com/assets/...0-T009-TDS.pdf
MORE
The new stuff in now called "white" by Cardinal and does not seem to have a RAL number -
http://www.cardinalpaint.com/assets/...1-T009-TDS.pdf
Looks like Vans may have slipped an extra "1" into the part number though.

Definitely not a light gray. At least in my kit from 2017-2018. I got my information from Vans too(seems that have changed it up a few times) the color code I mentioned matches my powder coat parts exactly.

I wish I knew why it's called gray. I've touched up lots of spots. It's an exact match for Vans white powder coat.
