Beautiful Day for BBQ in Texas
It was one of those days you hope for because they never seem to happen on the days you have free to fly.
It was CAVU in Texas with cool temps that make the airplane perform its best, no turbulence and a bunch of RVers craving barbeque. So the BC Squadron mounted up and met in Stephenville (KSEP) for some Hard 8. It seems as though the entire population of Stephenville had the same idea -- the line was long, but the chatter was fun and the food well worth the wait.
We had at least 15 RVs show up (12 in the photo below but stragglers soon followed. Perhaps Doug will post a later photo). Parking actually became a challenge.

RV city for the most part at high noon in Stephenville

Jay Pratt called for us to meet on the ramp at 1200 sharp. He meant it. As you can see from the photo above, my ETA would put me over the airport at high noon. I could see the ?on-time? group heading out as I flew by on downwind.

Not only smooth air but a nice tailwind - 197kt ground speed ? made for one of those RV grin days. The trip back wasn?t too bad either at 167kt as the wind had shifted a bit.
Builders: Keep setting rivets. This will be you one day.

It was indeed great to see everybody. We also missed some of the notably absent suspects too.

Not regularly planned, the Wx looked good and Jay and I picked a spot. In hind sight we probably could have picked better - the line at the BBQ place went slow. Having said that it's one of the places you can walk to from the ramp <g>.
As for notification, a good reason to check VAF daily . It was the top story Friday, in the VAF calendar, and I posted a note in the 'Temp/Test' area.
Sorry you missed it, but don't worry, we'll do it again!!!!

Great day despite the 26 knot headwind - only on the way up of course!
I've been to the Hard 8 a number of times, usually the wait is 10-15 minutes. The Van's contingent had quite the turn out.
It was not an original idea! It took a lot longer than 10 minutes!.
Sure was worth waiting for.
