Default I have seen this done.

I put a once piece windshield stc in my dads 64 Cessna-182g.

At the top there was a need for a more structural attachment, so the stc called to VERY CAREFULLY drill an 1/4" hole with the special plexiglass drill, insert a piece of 1/4 poly urethane tubing in the hole and then after sliding in the windshield between the two pieces of aluminum install 6-32,
(or 8-32, I don't remember exactly), fully threaded machine screws through the holes.

The Poly Urethane tubing acted as a mini shock mount and protected the plexiglass from the machine screw threads.

Yessiree, it would also allow for some expansion and contraction without adding stress to the assembly. Just how much I couldn't tell you, but it would be better than nuthin'

I am glad we are all going over this before I need to do my Plexi work.

Default cushioning for fastener

My intent was to make a hole in the canopy with adequate (?) space for the fastener, probably a #4 stainless screw, to sit in the middle of the hole and have sika fill in the space around the fastener. The sika would perform the function of the tube mentioned by Tom. I am open to using a tube instaed of the injected sika if that works out better.

The question remains, what size hole to allow the expansion of a #4 screw....and, what size and style of fastener to use?

Tony PM me your contact info, I will send you some 4-40 samples from my loose items. You can experiment with them and let us know what you find and how it works out. You may want to get some of our new #4 Countersunk Washers to go under the heads.

Default screws for canopy

Be advised your canopy is going to expand and contract a lot with heat and cold. You need a lot of clearance for the screws.
