Default Recommendations for solar airport lighting

Hey guys, just a quick question on airport lighting. I’ve got an electrician buddy who is installing the lighting on a local airport and the owner wants a solar light for his new lighting system. Does anyone have any experience with a certain brand or company they would suggest?

Thanks,
Zach

We use these in the military for austere strips. Extremely strong, durable, and long lasting. However, not cheap.

We just purchased 8 of these to test and they work great. We will be buying more.

What is the cost on those? Our hard wired lights aren't working.

Very cool, I?ve done more than my fair share of ?austere landings? in the military and never knew Avlite was who produced some of the products. Always fun to put a 500k lb airplane down on a 3500? unpaved strip!

Back on topic, I see these sites say to write in or inquire for prices. How much are we talking so I can give him a ballpark figure?

We use solar powered Dock Lights. We get them at various places (Costco, Amazon, Box Store)
https://www.overtons.com/modperl/pro...-Lite&i=109688
https://www.amazon.com/JACKYLED-Weat...SIN=B00M4ZTS84
They are glued to a concrete pave stone 12" square which we paint white. We cut out the runway turf and place the paver in flush to the surface.
These lights are cheap and glow all night in the summer.
But randomly fail from water eventually seeping into some of them.
So we have to change a few every now and then.
I suppose you could consider it the same as changing a burned out bulb.
The big plus is that you can land or taxi right on one, or mow right over it because they are so low. Might not be as bright as some wish...but a huge upgrade for a residential grass strip community.
The big expense was installing a well and runway sprinkler system! We saved a ton of $ doing the installation work that we could. It also makes better neighbors.

How far apart did you place these dock lights?

Every 200 feet along both sides of a 2400 foot turf runway, 4 across each end.
These lights are directional, they can be seen clearly while taking off or landing, but not so much from the side.

You could install clean coal powered lights and apply for a subsidy. Just a thought.
