I am building an rv6 and ready to attach the windshield.

tools used, techniques etc.
thanks

Don, although not specific to the RV-6, these RV-14 videos from Scott McDaniels at Vans probably apply to all of the RV canopies. Should be a starting point for you anyway.

You didn't specify which canopy you are building, but if it is the tip-up then you might be interested in Will Cretsinger's supplemental instructions from over twenty years ago:

http://web.archive.org/web/200512022...opy_notes2.htm

Or Frank Justice's slider notes:

http://www.matronics.com/rv-list/hovan/finish.html

Will and Frank's build notes have faded into obscurity but they were invaluable to those of us building RV-6's in the '90's.

This might also be helpful:

Ahhhh...nostalgia.......

Do you have a section in your builders log leading up to the “Big Cut”. I did not build my 6 but the windscreen needs replacement. I have the damaged windscreen off that was easy and I have a new canopy from Vans sitting in the hanger intimidating the heck out of me. Not sure where to start.

Howdy Mike,

You could turn the new canopy upside down, place the old windscreen in it, find where it sits the best, and mark the perimeter. Cut it large and sneak up on the final size. Use a thin cut-off wheel in a die grinder and make pass after pass til you cut all the way through.

RV-6 plans can be bought on flash drive from Van's at low cost and the builder's manual is in there. As others have mentioned, there is lots of good research material out there for tips and tricks. I liked the RV-14 video for how to do the windscreen fairing.

It is intimidating, it's true, but it is possible. Make some progress and I'll see if I can make some time to swing by and give you some pointers and ideas on how to continue.
