Is it OK to shorten the Pitot Mast a little?

Got down to business last night and trimmed down the pitot mast and then drilled and tapped new screw holes for the new pitot tube. You know you have been away from the build too long when you have to wipe off the cobwebs from your band saw and electric sander!

Interesting that we're both work on our pitot masts at the same time. I just posted on another thread here last night, detailing the back brace I designed for my Avery mast. Waiting for my Garmin GAP 26 to arrive from Aerotronics. Just about to head out to the shop to clean up and get ready for next step... but first I'll read your update.

and I saw the pic of your solution. Looks like it turned out great. You remember that I am detail kind-of-guy, so brace yourself for my ultra long blog post. I'll add the pics that I took this morning to that post to help break up the text just a bit.

You'll still get done well before me, but its nice to work on similar things at the same time as others so we can agonize and celebrate together.
