Default Delrin rudder stops.

Based on what I'm reading the delrin rudder stops seem to be a good idea and I think that I will go with them.

As I am currently building the VS I was wondering if I should install the stock rudder stops as well or delete them? I am inclined to install them as per plans and just add the aftermarket part. Thoughts?

Default Another option

I built the stops out of one piece of aluminum instead of two. I used the rivets called out in the plans. I have 760 hours and no problems. I know a lot of the builders replaced their rivets with screws so they wouldn't sheer when using two pieces.

I'm glad I saw this post, Fly Boy Accessories has been out of them for a while. I checked last night and he had some back in stock. Placed an order and they shipped same day.

I have no idea if the stock ones are installed on my project, I bought the tail kit used and that was already completed. I'll pull it out of storage tonight and check.

I have the delrin stop and it works fine. No need to add the stock ones in my opinion.

They're not a good idea, but nobody has died yet.

I must have missed something--what's wrong with the stock stops?

Some owners have left their -10's unattended, outside, with no rudder gust lock. The rudder is very easy to move, and the wrong wind can easily bang it side to side until the weakest link fails. That's usually the rivets holding the stock stops. But that's hardly a design fault. You must use a rudder gust lock every time you leave this plane outside. (I suggest the modified Bogart tow bar approach - very quick and easy.)

Internal Delrin rudder stop only in my -9A. Works fine. Had to sand down the stops a bit to obtain book rudder deflection angle.

Default Not to open a can of worms...

Not to open a cans of worms, but why, in your opinion Dan, are the delrin stops a bad idea and possibly deadly?

I'm not sure what the stop setup is on the RV-10 and how it may differ from the single digit RV's external stops, however I suspect Dan is referring to this thread, and I guess he'll chime in if I'm off base on this one.
