And suddenly when we click the link, the sympathy returned to the dictionary, where it usually sits - just between sh*t and syphilis...

To be serious, we all feel the pain if you need a new cylinder and are also pushing the 8 faster - well done.

It does show a little of the harsh side of commercialism when manufacturers can corner a market until competition builds up. I spent a while tramping round Sun n Fun this year asking about viable alternatives to the 390 in the 14 as we just started one.

Problem seems to lie with the forward governor and fit around the engine mount if you go 360 angle.

Not drifting the thread, but any related suggestions along the thread line will be useful for us still undecided on motor for a 14.

Good luck with the new Jug btw

I MOUNTED PROP GOVERNOR IN REAR OF MY ANGLE VALVE THAT WAS A FRONT MOUNT. MADE PLATE FOR FRONT AND RAN A BRAIDED LINE. WORKS AS EXPECTED AND DOESN'T INTERFER WITH PLENUM.

You're talking about an RV-7 though, right? I think on the -14 series the rear mounted governor interferes with the engine/nose gear mount, hence the requirement to use an engine that has the forward mounted governor. And very few IO-360s have the FWD mount governor, making it difficult to find a good engine core if you want to go the overhauled 360 route..

Thumbs up New IO 390 cylinder prices

It seems as though there is new prices for cylinders for the IO 390. The new prices are very competitive from Lycoming. I just wanted to let everyone know that before you change your mind about the IO 390. Trying to set the record straight.

Obviously retail prices vary a bit. However, the word is we're now looking at less than $2K per jug.

Hmmmm....great. You guys may have pushed my motor purchase back to next August.

Where would one go to find an example of the (much) lower cylinder prices or some other confirmation?

Perhaps....the internet? Maybe use a cell phone?

Lycoming list is $1909.63, apparently since last June. Air Power is $1712.

Spruce is $1834

If you would like independent dimensional checks, port cleanup, and seats recut with a Serdi, Barrett is $1997

Default Retail varies

I won't quote a price as each vendor has their own pricing but it is now competitive with other IO 360's. It's no longer outrageous.
