Default New Engine...Superior or Lycoming Cylinders

I am ordering an engine for my -10.

I have the option of Superior or Lycoming cylinders...

Here is a dumb question. Does anyone have and opinion for or against?

I would call Rhonda at Barrett Precision Engines. She's helped me immensely with engine options and now have a solid idea of what I'm going to end up with.

Default Yep

Yes she is very helpful. Just sent a deposit today. She said that they are about the same. I am leaning towards the Superior though, as I had those cylinders on a different engine and had no issues...

Just thought I would query the brain trust...

I believe I will be using the B&C alternator and the Plane Power starter, though...

Ask about weight differences. I think the superior are heavier

Default Cylinders

Superior are 2# heavier per cylinder IIRC.

I was told at Lycon that the Lycoming cylinders flow better stock, and have more potential with porting.

Default Lycoming

Did they show you data or was it a Lycoming guy selling his product?

No, Lycon do their own rebuilds and modifications, they are not a Lycoming sales house.

They have recommended Lycoming cylinders over others for decades.
