That's a good tip Boomer. I didn't know Variprime was still available. I like the brush idea.
I believe that the prep is as important as what kind of primer you use. All primers will provide some level of protection if they adhere properly. Aluminum oxidizes quickly after cleaning so we need to get the primer on soon after cleaning.
I am using an acid wash scrub with scotchbrite pad and IO water rinse, and two part expoxy (automotive), or spray can primer for small parts that don't warrant a spray gun with all the clean up involved.
