Default Empennage hinge points

I am building the empennage of an RV 8. I found that the rudder required doublers. My question is do the elevator hinge points require doublers as well. I think cracks have been found in the vertical spar. What about the horizontal spar? Thanks CHS

The elevator and rudder spars use .063 plates as doublers at the hinge points.

Is this what you mean? Your question as worded is a bit confusing.

Default Read this service bulletin

Read this http://www.vansaircraft.com/pdf/sb14-02-05.pdf

Cracks have been found on the elevator. I've not heard of cracks on the stabilizer hinge. Service Bulletin adds doubler to forward side of elevator spar, this means you will have a doubler on both sides of elevator spar for each rod end bearing. I believe newer kits have this as part of plans. If you have an older kit, might as well add these now while building.

Default Hinge points

My plans called for doublers on the rudder. The elevators were not mentioned on the plans. The service bulletin makes this much clearer. Thanks CHS
