I do get a huge amount of fuel into the airbox once I removed the FAB I could see that.
I found a way to start her now by pumping the throttle twice very fast causing the fuel to spay into the other side of the carb wall whilst cranking, this makes it splash and gets sucked up much easier, before I was only pumping the throttle gently and guess it was all just running down.
I would like to get a replacement part but like you say it should be fixed properly otherwise it can cause more problems....like a stuck open throttle I read about on an NTSB report.
