New! Available N-Number Search Engine
I have been hard at work updating my FAA Available N-Number search engine and I am proud to say it is finally ready for public consumption!
I made the nSearch program many years ago when I was building in order to find a great N-Number. I wasn't completely satisfied with the FAA's website as it has a very basic search engine, as well as it doesn't let you know of the latest N-Numbers that have been released into the public.
My goal with this site was to remove any limitations of searching for available N-Numbers. Additionally, every hour it crawls the FAA database to see which N-Numbers were recently freed up and lists them on a per-day basis, for up to the past 30 days.
The search engine can be accessed simply by going to http://www.tailnum.com. Enjoy!

Thanks, Mike! I need to reserve a number, & played with it for a while this morning. Very easy to use.

Thank you!
Awesome Mike! There are now 4 people including two pilots in the family so the RV-8 by itself just won't do the job anymore. I just got permission to start building an RV-10 in the spring and find the FAAs search engine way too cumbersome!

Nice job. I wish this were available a couple of years ago.

Very cool, Mike!
So, if the FAA site says an N-number is assigned, and your site says it's not assigned, how are you able to register it? Do you have to wait until it becomes available on the FAA website? ( http://registry.faa.gov/aircraftinqu...m_Inquiry.aspx). They claim they update their data each federal working day at midnight.

Mark-
Every hour I download all available numbers from the FAA's AircractInquiry site and load it into my database. The actual update takes place sometime between 1-2am EDT. So my site is as updated as the FAA site is.
Here is one exception - where I list the "Newest Available N-Numbers" for a particular day - those are the numbers that were made free on that date, however, they may of become already registered after that update. I decided to keep it the way it is to show people that occasionally great N-Numbers come available (although they typically get picked up quickly!).

Very nice update. And darn it, I just reserved a new N number so now I will have to decide between my previously selected one and this new, shorter, cooler one (assuming the registration completes successfully)!
