"Daubers" & Starlets Today...

Interesting day today. It started off with giving a friend a ride to show off my newly installed GRT autopilot.

Next, I helped a Mooney owner install his cowl after maintenance. During the cowl install, we heard a buzzing sound coming out of the left wing. Tapped on the wing, and out flew a mud dauber. Went back to the cowl...a few minutes later...buzz, buzz, buzz...followed by tap, tap, tap...and out flew the mud dauber again. Cowl installed and time for a test hop. Successful test hop followed by buzz, buzz, buzz. This looks like a job for Terminix!

Next, I helped a friend work on his Republic SeaBee. Afterwards I was invited for a test hop. Friend opened the cowl to check the oil and found both sides of the engine impacted with a huge starllng nest. The aircraft remains parked outside and had not flown in over a month.

I was working on the 12 today and just happened to notice a dauber flying around the spinner and before I could get at him, he disappeared in the pitot tube. I quickly pulled the d180 out of the panel and removed the plastic fitting from the rear and gave it a shot of 100 psi air. It appears he shot out of the gun barrel so fast I never saw it. I followed with a piece of safety wire to make sure there was no blockage.

I'll take the bird's problems over the mice's problems I have in my RV-4...

I just don't know what to do to get ride of them...I spent the afternoon cleaning droppings and other stuff out of the aft section and wings...

Do you guys have any good solutions..

I thought about putting one of these in the aircraft...might work..

Same thing here in a wing fuel line. It was a good thing no one was standing in
front of it as I would be in jail now for murder

I have never tried it, but I think this guy's approach for deterring mice looks like it would work:

I've not experienced any of those things with an airplane but recently had to remove the AC blower from our truck. A chipmunk used it for winter storage.

Hey, might be worth a try...

I tried just about everything so far..

I looked at the tail end section of the aircraft last week with a borescope and found all kinds of deposits in the tail cone and I will be removing the whole empennage this week so I can clean it properly..

The smell is awful...

They must like RVs as I'm the only one with a mices problem on the strip..

Will report back if I go this route..

Im just down the road from this airport. I will have to run up and look at these this week. I like the idea but would rather have them lethal than non lethal. I have been using those stick pad mouse traps all around the wheels of my plane. They work pretty well, but I have to keep replacing them. I would rather just have a whiff of smoke and no more mouse.
