Petit Jean 2015 - All the Smiles ... all the Pictures :-)

As we had hoped, it turned out to be a fun filled, beautiful weekend on Petit Jean Mountain with 120+ RVs, 175+ RVator's, 150+ total airplanes, and a ton of photos to prove it. :) Links below!

Friday arrivals started early with AirBoss Bob and helper AirBossette Linda directing/welcoming the traffic flow from 70 miles out. The EAA 165 and the Homsley Cooking Crew outdid themselves with all manner of grilled, BBQ'ed, roasted, toasted, and broiled table fair. The Friday night gathering at the Rockefeller Conference Center literally emptied their "gourmet campground" kitchen with an overflow dinner crowd pushing 185 hungry RV'ators. There were interesting travel videos during dinner, several rounds of RV Tail Number Bingo and this years game of skill...Hog Toss. Hog Toss involved bean bags and a reasonably large quantity of adult beverages. By the end of the evening, it could have been more appropriately called a "can't find a skill" game. :D

By lunchtime Saturday, the parking crew was worn out with over a 100 RV's on the field and many still to come and go. Several brown gallon jugs of imported hops from the TruTrak crew with planes flying, formatting in public, RV Socializing, and lots of just plane'ole hanging around. Over 70 folks made some kind of trail run and a few made both the morning and afternoon hikes. Dinner was at the campground in the red light district (under the big tent) and featured pulled pork BBQ, big St. Louis style ribs, potato salad, beans, and all the fixings. Even though most of the state was under a fire ban, we were able to arrange charcoal fires at all the campsites to top off the evening.

Several folks took advantage of the clear night and lack of city lights to lay out on the runway and have a go a "group stargazing"..... and I mean literally "lay on the runway" :p. Andrew (of the brown jug fame) reported that it was nice and warm on the cooling asphalt with a sky completely full of stars. He noted that the shuttle vans only got close to squashing him twice... ;)

Sunday dawned crisp and clear with the smell of fresh coffee and home-style bacon & eggs to get things started. After the usual breakfast flurry, planes were loading, props were spinning, everyone helped pack up. By 11:00 AM the campground was lonesome, empty, and way better than we found it! It was a great weekend for the Gathering...Petit Jean was good to us again!

This is a fairly small subset of the pictures taken at this years Gathering. If you have online albums or pictures you want to share, this is the place to do it. Please take this opportunity to find something you really like or just enjoy the pictures and the memories of friends old and new. :)

Give these albums a little time to load .....they're big .... lots of bits and bites to haul up!

kudos to you and the crew for putting on the second largest RV (and various other aircraft) gathering in the US if not the world! Year after year the crew out does itself and makes the gathering better and better!
I can't wait until next year to see the continued growth and popularity of the KMPJ gathering of RVs!

Did anyone ever find Vader and ask him about his landing?:)

Large RV Gathering

Well... it's way off the biggest gathering but we do make a big effort to be "All RV". To do that you know we have to enforce very strict rules of attendance. To pass registration muster for the RV Gathering you absolutely must :

  • Own an RV...
  • Have built an RV...
  • Have ordered some part of an RV kit ....
  • Be married to an RV nut...
  • Want to Build an RV...
  • Want to Own an RV...
  • Fly something else while building an RV...
  • At least know somebody who owns an RV...

....or just like hanging around the coolest airplane group ever :)

*** The words above are not intended to be prejudicial, insensitive, politically incorrect, abusive, intimidating, offensive, or otherwise discriminatory to any of those other airplane groups out there who have yet to see the light !! ;)

Rv gathering

Well Bill, that just about covers everyone! The criteria might as be anyone that can spell "rv" can attend....LOL

Cut what in half :--)

Steve, that utube video made me realize that if you have a good looking blond in the right seat  and stall at 58 MPH, that you could cut it in half by rolling inverted and pushing so then in her version,... you stall at a negative - 58 MPH because you're going the other direction which nets to 0 MPH half way and you could just float around at 0 going nowhere but looking good .....she should design airplanes :)

Full Size HiRes Pictures

Have had several folks inquire about higher resolution pictures from the Arrival and Departure Series. :) I do have HR versions (5-8 Meg file size) of all the pictures but need to send them directly one at a time. Anything over 10 Meg at a time seems to gag. Have sent several directly to Dan Valovich for the pro touch and folks really seem to be pleased with them.

If you see any you like and want to take one to Wally World for a really nice print, just EM or PM and we'll get you one coming. Try to give me some kind of image number if you can or send me a clip of the picture you are looking for!

Never saw so many nice pictures! :D

Bill
