New RV-6A Owner

Hello everyone,

I am going to be picking up my new (to me) RV-6A on Friday in TX (Just south of Dallas and fly it to Florida, leaving TX around 11am, I hope. I have been looking at the weather patterns the past few days and do not think I can make it in one day. I was planning a fuel stop at Waynesboro Mississippi(2R0) near the Mississippi/Alabama line.

My question is does anyone else now of a good place to stop over night at in the general area of 2R0. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Pictures to follow soon.

Charles,
Check the "RV Hotel" link on the left side of the front page. If you gotta stay overnight somewhere, you might as well stay with a friend you haven't met yet... :D

Congrats on the new ride! Figure out how to post pictures here on the forums (it ain't rocket science) so we can all see it.

Best,

Hello everyone,

I was planning a fuel stop at Waynesboro Mississippi(2R0) near the Mississippi/Alabama line. .......

First, congrats on the new to you -6a.

I recently flew that same route (well, to Venice on the other side of Florida) and stayed at KMEI Meridian, a few miles North of 2RO.

GREAT people at the FBO (put my -6 inside for free when a storm was threatening), inexpensive fuel, and a free overnight courtesy car (actually, they had 4 brand new Ford SUV's). I have stayed at KMEI several times during my travels from Florida to New Mexico as numerous times Florida weather across the "mouth" was not doable.

Travel story with photos from Meridian.....

Thanks so much for the info

Thanks so much for the information.

I will put that in my GPS so I have a back up if I have to find a place to stop for the night. I like they have courtesy car to get around.

Sorry ACAM37
Hey, I wanted that plane.

I was searching for that plane when it's add expired and it popped up again and all things lined up (Because I just sold my Comanche fast) and I had to act fast to get it.

Here is a Pic the owner sent me for everyone to see.

Yep, that's it. She slipped through my fingers. I knew it was sold when the owner told me that you just paid for a pre-buy inspection. I decided to sell the RV-4 to a guy in Germany so the paperwork process takes a little time. I can't make a move on another plane until the money is released from escrow. But I sure wish I could have got that one. It looks like a great plane.

Sorry about that...

Sorry about that. I really like the plane and it comes with all the equipment that I need to work toward my hopes to get to the airline. For me to build my time up and keep my IFR proficiency up too.

I knew I had to act fast when it popped back up, I was lucky enough I sold my other plane just in time if not I would have been in the same boat. I could not buy another one with out selling mine.

So far so good.

I picked up the new plane this morning and flew it to Meridian, Mississippi for the night due to the storms popping up in Florida.

So far the plane flies great, showed 145 KTS indicated and 165Kts ground speed at 9.5 GPH at 9500ft. Have to love that.

Here are a few pictures of the trip so far.

Final Leg

I made it home safe and she has been put in her in new home at Grass Roots Airpark in Florida. It was a great flight, 873 NM in 6.1 hours (My personal longest Cross Country). I had to deviate a little due to the storm off the coast of Florida and my first fuel stop was IFR and had to push on to Cecil Field (KVQQ), my wife was very worried due to having extended my ETA over an hour . After the fuel stop, had to do a little divination due to low clouds but after a few lows passes down the runway, I landed safely with a nice crowd waiting on me, along with my DAD and Wife were happy that I made it safe.

I was very happy to have had the Stratus with ForeFlight, without it, it would have been very difficult to find a VFR airport since my fuel stop showed IFR. Worth the investment.

Here a few pictures on the last day.

Congratulations Charles!

A "Spot" tracker that updates your position to the internet so your wife can see your location can help to keep your wife from worrying when your ETA times change. It comes in handy for hiking, biking etc as well as flying.

Congratulations Charles!! That is one good looking RV6A. I purchased mine
back in April and I am still waiting to finish up my PPL so I can do my transition
training. Look forward to seeing you at Sun N Fun next year.

Thanks so much, your 6A is beautiful too. If you are down in Central Florida let me know. Would love to meet up and check out your new plane too. Good luck with you PPL, now you have some great motivation to finish. I am getting ready to do my Multi and CFI rating and use the 6A to build time. Need that 1500 hours........

Look forward to meeting you at Sun-N-Fun next year.

Glad I could help. Meridian has great service and people. Hope to see you at Sebring Weds mornings for the RV breakfast. Usually 10-12 RV in summer and lots more in winter. Plan arrival around 0800 as everyone scoots after breakfast by 0900.

Looks like tomorrow is scrubbed due to weather unless we have a quick recovery.

Robert,
Thanks so much for that great compliment. I am a very lucky guy to have a beautiful wife that supports my great hobby and the love of aviation. I can't wait to start the adventures very soon too.

Charles,

Come up to X35 and see me sometime. I'd like to see your plane. I'll treat you to lunch.

Jesse,

I will defiantly take you up on that. I was planning on coming to show you the plane in the next few weeks (and get gas). I would like to get your opinion on it. I only have a few small items I need to address but overall the plane flew back great and did not find any major issues with it.

Hope to see you in a week or so, I will send you a message to make sure you will be there.

Took My Wife on her First Flight in the new plane.

Here are a few pictures of my wife's first flight in our new RV-6A. We took off Saturday morning for Vero Beach for an early Lunch before the storms picked up. Here are a few photos of the trip. My wife likes the plane and is looking forward to many trips with her soon.

Charles, just thought I would let you know that I passed my PPL check ride
last week and am now waiting on weather to start my RV6A transition. Then it is on
to my Instrument rating. Not sure where from there but at almost 62yo who
knows. I just know that my grin is going to get even larger once I start flying
the RV. Can hardly wait until Sun-N-Fun next year.

Congrats on passing your check ride. Once you get signed off in the 6A you will start having a blast.

Hey Charles,
Didn't take you long to get back in a RV.
Congratulations.

No it didn't Mark. My wife and I are having a lot of fun with her too, looking forward to many trips. Also just ironing out a few things I have found with her. But that the fun of having an experimental plane. Let me know when you guys start making local trips around the area.

Congrats on passing your checkride, Gene. Let me know how things go with the -6A. You should have no excuse to let it sit now. :)

Stop by X35 when you start venturing out.
