I wanted to get to the Boone Iowa RV gathering but it was the same weekend as the Ray Fagen Memorial Warbirds show in Granite Falls Minnesota. That was a
spectacular event, and included the Tora Tora Tora show. Fagen Fighters WWII museum there has an
astonishing inventory of flying WWII fighter aircraft, and a lot more, but a few other organizations brought their fighters as well. The aerial dogfighting was fantastic, as was the Pearl Harbor reenactment. I flew down there to Minnesota corn country and shuttled over to the Granite Falls airport. I've been to their museum a few times...it is by far the most spectacular WWII aviation museum I've ever seen, and I'm actually a member of the National WWII Museum in New Orleans. They have a couple of P51's, a P38, a P40, Hellcat, Wildcat, a B25, a P38, and a bunch of other WWII airplanes. And they all fly regularly. They even just acquired a Mitsubishi Zero...one of five flying Zeros in the world.
I simply don't have the ability to describe this museum and especially this airshow in any way that would do it justice. There's no adequate way to describe the sight and sound of
two P51 Mustangs making a 50-foot low pass in formation down the runway at 400 knots. I you're interested here are some links:
