Another Item for the Bucket List

Me too!

I was thinking the same thing when I saw the article earlier today... on the bucket list it goes!

North Fox PIREP

I flew up to North Fox Island with the boys last weekend and had a great time.

We spent time hiking the beaches, swimming, stone skipping contests, and catching snakes.

The campground is in great shape, and we enjoyed the opportunity to camp in such a quiet and remote place.

Local pilots, working with the the Recreational Aviation Foundation, have done a great job in rehabilitating the runway. I won't say it is smooth, but there are no major problems with the surface and I will be back to camp again. Runway condition is a subjective thing, so your mileage may vary. One thing to be aware of is that if you venture into the woods the mosquitoes are pretty bad this time of year, and I'm not one who is bothered by a few bugs. Earlier in the spring or fall would be prime times to visit.

This was one day in a longer trip in which we also visited Charlevoix and Sault. St. Marie. Both are good places to visit. If you visit the Soo, make sure to take the boat tour through the locks, it is a good tour.

Nice "alternate" airport

Fox Island might help some people take a shortcut on the way to Oshkosh, too.

Being nearly a year, I had completely forgotten I started this post. It might be nice to hit Mackinac, Bois Blanc, the two Beaver Island strips, and North and South Fox strips sometime. All I need is an airplane...

Very nice pictures! I did make it to Beaver Island last Fall, further North. Looks quiet and peaceful on North Fox Island.

We did Bois Blanc (Boblo) the second weekend of June and had 8 airplanes. Only one RV but that's ok too. Great trip but got a little wet Friday night. Planned to do breakfast at Mac Ilse Saturday morning but the weather never lifted until after lunch at Mac.

The mosquitos were not too bad at the airport but if you ventured off into the woods........yea they were there. What we found annoying were the black flies. Pesky little buggers and will draw blood very quickly. After the rain started they were gone.

Two of the planes camped North Fox Saturday night
