space between radios?

Does there need to be vertical space provided between standard tray-mounted radios and transponders, or can the trays be stacked right against each other?

Phil,

I used a popsicle stick between the trays to set the space and it worked out great.

I left 1/16th between the trays. Radios in/out lockable no problem. There is a note somewhere in the paperwork that you are not supposed to stack them with zero tolerance.

It?s very important to leave a space between the components in terms of cooling. Cooling is very critical to life longevity of avionics components and it is critical to install an avionics cooling fan to all components in the stack, trust me I sell a lot of cooling fans to people down here in Arizona.

Garmin calls out 0.040", and they put dimples (convex to the outside) in the racks that provide exactly .040". Pretty slick, actually.
