Skybolt has over 26 years of experience and would like to offer some comparison thoughts before you buy ?

New Work Hardened Studs ? Our fasteners out performs competition by hundreds of hours. Skybolt machines and work hardens the head for maximum strength and life. The Skybolt CLoc? is a real #2 Phillips, versus a nonstandard machined head that will gall after a few applications. Not good for a pride and joy aircraft.

Finished Grommets ? Beautifully finished surface grommets.

All aluminum unbreakable receptacles ?
The competition uses a dissimilar metal cage limited to back access to adjust
(Try inserting a small pin from the back in a restricted area).
Plastic anti-lock pin (Will not end up in a tire).
SK245-4 Floater for firewall (Rivets limit float to industry standard)
SK215-4 Fixed for Sides (No Cowling shift or movement)

***NEW *** Aluminum Mounting Strips Optional and Ready to Ship!

When you add it all up, the Skybolt CLoc? out performs the competition, thus the real savings to you.

I really didn?t want to have to do this and tried to ignore it as ?static? but, a few people have asked me about the above statements made by Skybolt and a clarification is now required. If any of the forum moderators find these posts as distasteful as I do, please delete them.

MilSpec precision machines the head of our fasteners from 304 stainless steel which is quite strong and does not require work hardening to achieve a sufficient level of toughness. The head is an industry standard #2 Phillips that does not gall after a few applications. Please feel free to test it with any make of screw driver.

The aluminum MilSpec receptacles included with the kit have a bright zinc plated steel cage which is used to achieve maximum strength. Dissimilar? Yes, but so is the locking clip on both MilSpec aluminum receptacles and Skybolt receptacles.

MilSpec zinc plated steel receptacles have the same steel cage.
MilSpec stainless receptacles have a stainless cage.

MilSpec receptacles can be adjusted from the front or back.

My apologies for this unfortunate but necessary post.

Skybolt CLoc Cowling Kits

We have had several requests to extend our product line to include the mounting strips. We responded by now offering these strips as options to all of our Vans RV Kits. The correct alloy and thickness was determined by excellent feedback from our fellow RV builders. As we originally built our RV4 using .060 strips, we have found a better solution in thinner gauge materials we now offer as a standard. By working directly with Sam and Will James, both our fasteners and their cowlings have seen major improvements to adapt to the CLoc system making installation easier with excellent service life.

Now, we have requests for precut mounting strips. I will have precut mounting strips ready for shipment once all related design patents and drawing copywrite is completed. It is unfortunate to the customer that we must incur this expense for such a simple improvement to the process. We are not so interested in passing on the cost as we are interested in keeping your trust as an innovator that gets it right the first time. When a competitor consistently has to replace parts that were derived from an estimate of what Skybolt supplies, they stand a slight chance of duplicating what we did 5 or 10 years ago with a different generation of cowling. At least the competition provides good service replacing everything, thus the market Skybolt created remains credible. We want to continue designing and innovating so that we may support the many builders that know and demand quality products, the first time. This is not rocket science; only a function of hands on experience and years of interaction with the builders at Oshkosh and Sun N Fun.

We are going through our mounting strip inventory fast. That is a great thing. I have material for 10 more kits, then it will take 1 week to bring in sheet and size it properly.

Thanks for your support and many orders received from now through Sun N Fun. See you there!

Ned-
No disrespect intended here, but you're not doing yourself any favors by trashing the competition. If anything, you're probably doing the opposite. RV builders are pretty smart and can make their own judgements without you being that derogatory.

Clarification Part II

"When a competitor consistently has to replace parts that were derived from an estimate of what Skybolt supplies, they stand a slight chance of duplicating what we did 5 or 10 years ago with a different generation of cowling. At least the competition provides good service replacing everything, thus the market Skybolt created remains credible."

Please be advised that MilSpec did not have to replace parts as a result of problems of any kind as has been insinuated above. We simply offered to swap out parts because we operate under the concept of ?continuous improvement? for the benefit of all parties. Having made substantial enhancements to our products, we offered them to the VAF community in the course of normal operations and asked very little in return.

When reading future posts from Mr. Bowers, please understand that he is a former shareholder of MilSpec and now, as an owner of Skybolt is a competitor.

Having 15+ years of personal experience with him, it is my opinion that he is an extremely disgruntled individual when it comes to matters involving MilSpec.

Please consider the source of any information being disseminated, verify and then make whatever decision you feel comfortable with.

Now ascending the ramp to ?the high road?.

Geezzzzz

Now if we could just get engine suppliers to mix it up and throw out some deals and stomp on each other that would be ok.
