Show us a pic of your FINISHED RV-9/9A!!!

Thanks a lot guys. I am not a painter. I always figured painting was for the artistic crowd. I do love to learn though. I had a period of six months before I had the funds for engine and panel so I decided to spend the time painting.
What a learning process. It is not show quality but I can say I did it myself.
swixtt - feel free to PM with any questions.
Tom - ashame you can't see the TS Flightlines hoses from the outside.

I think I am the only tail draggin RV-9 in Florida.

I finished my phase 1 testing a few weeks ago but had not completed the cowl paint. I have now finished that so I figured I could finally post here.

AWESOME looking -9. Hope to see you at Sebring Weds morning breakfast one of the days. The paint job looks eerily familiar. :D

Ted,
Thanks I did not know that. I thought I had seen that I was the only Florida registered RV-9. Good to know.

Gary,
Imitation is the best form of flattery. Maybe if I show the rest I can stay out of trouble. I did make a couple of the Wednesday mornings in Dec. but I will keep trying.

First Flight

Hi Vansters,

Just a quick pic of our recently completed RV9A on its First Flight. A QB kit that had lain unstarted for a number of years, we picked it up locally and 12 months later it is flying !

I flew my RV9A for the first time last friday may 02 in Vannes airport LFRV.
40 minutes of flight.
No big issue, just the EFIS and EMS to configure correctly.
And a small leak at the gascolator fitting, quickly fixed.
Greats flights are coming !

Is it ever really finished?

Not sure I can really say it's finished, as I can always find something I want to tweak, add, change or modify. But if finished is what this thread is about, I guess my baby is now as close as it is every going to get.

- First flight April 27, 2013
- Completed first annual condition inspection last month, having logged 130 hours of flight.
- Now showing off on the ramp at Big Bear (L35), just having completed a vinyl wrap. I will get around to posting a complete write up of the wrap process in a separate thread soon.

Looks fantastic, Pete!

My most memorable training flight in the DA-20 was up to Big Bear. We went to 9500', the highest I'd ever been. The views of the mountains, incredible. I'll never forget the smell of the pine trees and fresh mountain air after we landed and popped the canopy.

My RV9A flew for the first time on November 14, 2015. As of January 6, 2016 I have 25 hours of my 40 hours of test time flown off. I am very happy with the finished product.

The FAA issued the 40 hour phase one because I have a non certified prop and engine. Thanks for the kind words and I still get excited everytime the weather is nice enough to fly and I know when I get off of work I can go to the airport (AXV) pull my plane out of the hanger jump in and learn something new about her.

24 months... that is exactly the time I have been working on my RV-9, but it if FAR from finished. Congratz!

In case you did not know yet, the first weekend of July we organize the Experimental Days: www.experimentaldays.be. I got an email from an Austrian RV12 builder who is likely to join with 2 other friends. It would be great if you could join!

Good luck and enjoy!

24 months, man just the idea of having that much free time to work on a plane project to get it completed in that time frame makes me jealous...

Center Console

Hi Tom,

Yes it's a Selfmade Part. It takes many Time to Build.... The Side Plates(Panels) are Wood with approx 1.5 mill. and Glass Layers the Front a Self-building AL Braket (See Photo)

But make it a Little smaler so approx. 1 Inch, in the middle.. (it is 110 mill.in my Plane) for my it's completly ok, but a Pilot with Legs like a Rugby Player had a Problem with the Stick Range...:p

Pink Slip

Okay it's not really finished - too poor for paint and too impatient for wheel pants just yet, but N313GT received it's pink slip today thanks to Vic Syracuse who was kind enough to stop by on his way to SNF. 3 1/2 year slow build, couldn't have done it without VAF.

Hoping for a first flight Thursday early AM at KZPH before the SNF crowd starts launching.

Awesome, congrats looks great!

Way to go, Chris!!! 3.5 years is an impressive completion time for a slow-build kit. We're all looking forward to your first flight report and impressions.

Way to go! Now starts the best part! Phase I actually flying. Don't fret the paint or wheel pants. I have 55 hrs on my 9A no paint and just started working fairing and wheel pantst. But flying take presidents.

I had Vic do my sign off and very happy he did. Very complete inspection to make sure my work was up to snuff. I think you can be confident in your work if Vic liked it. Perhaps we can get together at X35 when you get off your home turf.

Absolutely, I feel very relieved knowing Vic approved it. I was fortunate enough to get a 100nm test area, and was thinking of heading to X35 once the engine is broken in to have Jesse balance my prop.

Bad Wx on Thurs

Chris,

The front and tornado warnings (of course,it's Sun n Fun week) are likely to keep you from flying this AM.
If you elect to postpone until tomorrow AM, George and I will be at ZPH on Friday morning and happy to stand by for any assistance if you need it.

We're in hanger four, units 8 & 10. (Main ramp, hanger facing the runway)
2 - RV-9A's

Be sure to post your first flight if we miss it.

Wish you success!!

Congrats Chris

Congratulations Chris - I have a finished 9A as well but just waiting on getting some squawks taking care of before meeting with the DAR. Has my build really been 10 years - oh well.

N351sm completed June 2015

The only issues were high cylinder head temps. I had carb drilled and replaced with a larger jet. Engine is a titan o-320 with a c/s hartzel prop. I made a lot of tweaks, baffle, carb jet. Inlet , climbing out at 120 knots. I ran engine hard for the 1st 40 hours. When all said and done, the engine just needed to be broken in!! At 55 hours temps have come way down. Normal summer climb out runs about 390-400 degrees on hottest cylinder. During break in 425-450.

N1605A finally has paint

Thanks to Jonathan at PlaneSchemer for the final design and Upper Valley Aviation for doing the work. I think it looks great! You can see more pictures on my blog if you want to see some of the design and progress pictures.
