check for shaft play...

Whenever you pull them for inspection, take a close look at shaft play... in my experience it is a good sign of wear that will eventually lead to timing irregularities.

I used 12-15 inches...

I took the commercial in my RV and used 12-15 inches for various commercial maneuvers to comfortably execute them within expected standards.

About 2,000 construction hours however you do it... a bit less if you stack it up, and a bit more if you drag it out. Lots more if you really drag it out.

I am using a nickel based anti-sieze

for the slip joints... I am using a nickel based anti-sieze from permatex that has worked well.
Also, back off the bolts a bit so that they rotate...

I think it was from non-stop aviation but they are not around anymore... ACS has a similar one though. You need a flange and the butterfly.

Standard RV-10 parts no modification needed.

I tested 8 of these (Denso IKH01-27) extensively for racing and found no benefit... but they do come in neat individual plastic cases.

I use -5.6 degrees from the base map

after much testing I am using -5.6 degrees from the base map... basically this gives 20 degrees under high power sea level and 30 in typical cruise.

TAS varied based on fuel savings needed for the leg... I mostly target 170-177 kts LOP with flows from 8-9.5 gpm... above 6k

You might want to double check this to be sure... the drive ratio depends on where it is mounted on the case and the rotation of the arm and RPM change is routing and description dependent.

I have flown both extensively to the edges of the flight envelope... both work. I have posted previously on the differences. I prefer the -8 rudder but it is good to have some time with the -9...

The PCU 5000 can run from the back or front of the case and needs to be geared correctly for the choice... also, the direction of rotation can be CW or CCW. It can be changed from one to the other...

I would go with the 900 but he 680 is adequate...

I have been running the 680 for several years and more than 600 hours and it is adequate for a 390 but if I had it to do over again I would go with the 900 for the extra reserve and depth of charge.

Building tanks is really not a big deal and working with pro seal is pretty fun.

Like anything new, there are learning steps and some frustration but it is worth it.

I recall a post by Van's long ago indicating that the new curved tail spring for the -14 could be fitted in a 7 or 8 for greater wheel travel margins on rough terrain.

No bird damage to the rudder. I replaced the original .016 skin joined trailing edge -7 rudder with a .020 folded trailing edge -8 version last Summer but had not yet...

the black brake hose fits perfectly up under the passenger side rail and through the very top of the cap strip (F704 / F704K) to get you behind the panel... easy routing to the firewall wherever.

My original -7 rudder had accumulated too many cracks at the stiffener ends to go another year with it at Reno... it had been on my list to test out a -8 rudder for potential speed advantage and...

It's the same model P-Mag for both sides and the same gear... the gear on your regular mag can be re-used but the impulse coupled mag gear will not work. You need a Lycoming gear 68c19622.

turn the prop...

the plunger that runs off of the engine is pushing down on the lever arm... rotate the prop to bring the cam around for the plunger to back off and it will come right off.

NL starter failures...

I have had 3 NL starters rip themselves apart... never had the shear pin do its thing to save the casting though.

The replacements have shown small incremental upgrades.
