My nosewheel shimmy turned out to be a shimmy in the mains. Didn’t realize it until I taxied at high speed with the nose up. :)

All good points

Also keep in mind that upgrading an old RV-6A panel (including with an autopilot), while no small undertaking, is significantly less expensive than doing so in a certified bird. Once you get past the...

You could do a lot worse

The right -6A is a very, very good machine. I think it's the real value leader in used RVs.

This combo is such a good price/performance equation that I'm mildly surprised that nobody has tried to certify it. Simple, relatively inexpensive, climbs great, goes fast, handles well when slow,...

You’ll love it

I tell people my -9A is like a two-seat Mooney. Not quite a two-seat Acclaim Ultra, of course… 😃

You will have zero problems transitioning. Insurers know this and seem to be happy with the -9A. All...

non-IFR vs. glass

True, but these are not your only choices. :) A steam gauge IFR RV can be a super price/performance value, especially with an autopilot.

I second this motion

The guy who built my -9A did a great job, but having done far too much spelunking under the panel, I can say that it was NOT designed for future maintenance/upgrades!

+1 on the Stein Air videos....

I doubt my -9A would get to FL210 (carbureted O-320) but I am CERTAIN that I would freeze up there with my paltry heater output! :D

I'd be very interested in an easy retrofit for the -9

Outside of the -9A my time is in Warriors, 150/152s, and 172s, and I think the -9A is actually even easier to land than the certified birds (none of which are tough of course). :)
