This is not true in Virginia. Aircraft in Virginia must be registered, and registration requires insurance. Specifically, Virginia requires liability insurance in a specified amount (basically...

I had to do similar sleuthing

The availability of a schematic of the electrical system is a HUGELY undervalued item when considering the purchase of a used homebuilt. 😃

G3x vs. G5

I think the presence of the G3x is the key. My understanding is that if you’re running the autopilot with a G5, the 507 can produce an audible warning (if appropriately wired into your audio panel)...

One other difference

I think the 507 also produces an audio warning of autopilot disconnect, while the 307 does not. I think that difference is non-trivial, as I have in fact had the autopilot lose consciousness on me. I...

G5 driving the autopilot

Yes, in fact I have the G5 running the GSA28 servos all by itself (no G3X).

IMHO, two G5s (one as an AI, one as an HSI) and the Garmin autopilot would make an insanely capable and very...

Something to consider

One could argue that such a "grease payment" is outside the coverage of the FCPA, and that this isn't being done for any business purpose.

Still, participating in making cash payments to foreign...

THIS IS VERY GOOD ADVICE.

I'll skip the gory details for once, but some years back my whole panel lost power at night on an IFR flight. Close to a worst-case scenario with respect to avionics...

Also keep in mind that upgrading an old RV-6A panel (including with an autopilot), while no small undertaking, is significantly less expensive than doing so in a certified bird. Once you get past the...

I second this motion

The guy who built my -9A did a great job, but having done far too much spelunking under the panel, I can say that it was NOT designed for future maintenance/upgrades!
