Stupid stuff?

Dan, in post #83 you said "For the umpteenth time, don't put stupid stuff on the cabin side of firewalls, even when properly insulated on the forward side." Would you consider Stewart Systems...

Thanks for the replies guys. Seems there are many options for sealing the firewall. All are likely good options. Some have even used Hi Temp Red RTV which I would not use. I think I'll go with the...

Section 27 Firewall. Priming & sealing questions.

I have all the firewall parts de-burred and was getting ready to prime everything except the (4) stainless steel parts. Then I realized that maybe for the same reason the stainless parts shouldn't be...

I could be overthinking this.

The thread size is verified 10-32 on both parts. Not the wrong size or pitch.

Looked at the threads under magnification and can see what looks like galling. Blobs of metal in the threads. It doesn't...

My nuts are galled, 25-05 step 8

:(
I installed the AN3-13A bolts then realized I chose the wrong Cover Rib so removed the bolts and found badly galled threads. We all know these all metal locknuts work like platenuts (nutplates?)...

I've heard of dimple cracking problems but have not seen it myself. These are relatively large dimples for #8 screws so they're likely more susceptible to cracking than the more typical rivet...

Why drill this hole? 25-04 step 1

I must be missing something. The existing #19 (.166) holes to be drilled #17 (.173) are already the correct size for a #8 screw dimple die. Why are they drilled larger?

F-01474 Top Side Skins. Edge break?

Page 10-29 step 1 has us break the edges of the of the F-01475 Top Skin where it overlaps the F-01474 Top Side Skins. That makes sense and I did it. But unless I missed something the lower edges of...

Scott, I understand and agree with what you are saying with regard to the .007" deeper countersink depth. The dimple and countersink will lock together. There will be a small but invisible gap...

Jim,

That's exactly what they are dealing with and the reason for the louvers on top of the cowl. Scott said there is no problem with heat during flight but after shutdown on a hot day the temps...

One, they...

I learned the powder cure temperature is 400F for 20-22 minutes. Could that damage 6061-T6 or 2024-T3? I'm concerned about both distortion and metallurgical damage.
