Starter "Cut-out"...

...switch in the locked forward baggage compartment. This lets me leave the canopy open, yet turn my back/walk away without fear of anyone reaching in and turning the prop.

T/O Flaps

I changed to using 1/2 flaps for TO in my -8, because it eliminates the tire "skittering" during the rotation.
Now, with 1/2 flaps, I raise the tail immediately and hold a steady, almost level pitch...

AP servo

I had to upgrade to the 42 for my RV-8's elevator servo...I couldn't get past the setup procedure without clacking and slipping.
Don't know if my original -32 was defective or not, but the -42 works...

I routinely carry 2 25# bags of lead shot stradling the rear seat when I'm flying solo.
When I have a passenger, I remove them, unless he or she is heavy...then I put them in the forward bag compt....

I flew 5 hours, over 2 days, dual with an instructor in Okeechobee Florida. RV-6, I think. We did dozens of landings until I was comfortable...and my first flight in my -8 was uneventful!

For what it's worth, my IO-360, with dual P-Mags will cruise at around 2250 rpm, 50 degrees LOP at 5.2 gph. About 145 TAS.
