I gave up that procedure 20 years ago. I just wipe the nozzle with a rag, spot sprayed with Berryman B-12 or CRC Brakleen, and have never had a clogged nozzle or loss of pressure.

I would glue that gasket and use it long enough to replace the reservoir with one from Van's. You don't need that much volume and complex vent and lid.

It can be replaced without bleeding the system.
