I think your 3000 hours is in the ballpark for a slow build kit. Some people are fast workers in the shop, and some (me) spend a lot of time scratching our heads....so there is a lot of variation....

For whatever it is worth, I have more than 400 hours on my stock original tires and brakes. Tires will need replaced before too long (I did flip them once), but brakes have a lot of life left.

Wheel pants are built close to Van's plans (1-1/2"?), but perhaps fractionally lower. Very little clearance on rough turf. Not optimal, but it worked out. They can take some abuse.
