Actually these days you can get really inexpensive oscilloscopes. Some simply plug into a USB port and uses the laptop as display. For RS-232 monitoring you do not need a high-frequency oscilloscope....

There is a service bulletin about safety-wiring the flap motor output shaft (screw).

Make sure it hasn't worked itself all the way out of the rod end.
