What's the best way to seal this area around the crankcase?
There are spaces on the forward area of the crankcase and aft area near #3.

I would add, if you notice paint coming off, keep working that spot. You don't want to apply fresh paint over loose paint.

Always try to rivet hinge materials with both sides pinned. At least use the pin in the section to be riveted. Modify dies to clear or use close quarters dies.

I hate gel coat. Gray is better but I've seen it chip too. I would sand it all off and apply a layer of fiberglass. A belt sander will knock that stuff off really fast. So fast you should be careful....
