GPS

I can't see this being a problem in light of the fact that all modern airliners are GPS based with DME/IRS backup. Imagine the mess it would make of the system if the military made a habit of...

Alternator Switch

I used this once before and planning it on my RV-14. A single, 3 position locking switch labeled ALTERNATOR PRI, OFF, STBY. I too like the idea of positive control of the alternators.

Also, if you are using the Van's wiring harness, you need to replace the two wires coming out of the Autopilot roll servo and running to the aileron trim motor with shielded wire per Garmin. The CAN...

Steps

I just received the TD steps from Van's. My hope is they will keep someone from stepping on the flap or outside the walkway. Kinda pricey at $450 but a LOT cheaper than a flap. I have a friend...

I did The Works kit. I had Van's make my outboard wing skins without the landing light cutouts.

Cool foam blocks

I cut them just outside of the line with a band saw and then just sanded them enough to smooth them out (just a couple of licks). Worked great!

Dimpling

IMO, there is no substitute for some help in the shop when dimpling the bigger, more cumbersome parts. Twice now I put an extra hole with the dreaded C-frame dimpler that I don't think would have...

I have gone back and forth with that so many times. Most GA airplanes I flew had the Audio Panel at the top so there's that. All the airplanes I flew with the AP panel at the top had autothrottles,...

AEA Course

In the AEA course you get to use the crimpers and various tools of the trade. I had my very own tool box at my table. Was worth every penny!

Cool Yoke

What size yoke did Scott use on the fuel filler rivets? yokes are on sale this weekend. I shot the last ones using a bucking bar and it was a serious PITA.

Thanks!

I'd probably back burner the smooth touchdown part in those winds. A positive touchdown on the centerline in full control might be a worthy goal. Confidence goes a long way as well.
