Spin Recovery

That's an interesting question. Looking at Ken's tank mod, the only real unknown would be how spin recovery is affected by the moment of inertia change. Stress and fatigue from the greater weight...

RV-16 Update at OSH '22?

Amid all the discussion at Osh about the RV-15, was there any mention of the RV-16? I thought there would be a chance the 15 and 16 would be related such that the reveal of one would reveal hints of...

I assumed wheel pants would be a given for the trike. Vans must be aware many people simply want a high wing version of the existing low wing series, including the speed that comes along with the low...

Future Updates

I'm surprised Vans was able to be so tight-lipped about RV-15 development status over the past year. However, now that the cat's out of the bag, hopefully they'll be more forthcoming with updates on...

Strut Design

Removing the struts would be a major redesign at this point and a whole new flight test regimen. The presence of a spar in front of the pilots face would probably necessitate moving the whole wing...

RV-15

The access panel appears to be on a box next to him, rather than the rear. Looks like it is at elbow height. I wonder if it's a fuel tank. Looking at the wings, I don't see fuel drain valves. If...

RV-15 Sighting?

I agree completely. I figured it would look very similar to one of the existing high wing designs. As long as it performs better, and has more room than the Cessna 150, many would be content.

Still...

RV-15 Sighting?

The plane in those photos looks like a Cessna 150 fastback taildragger. If it wasn't for the placement of the baggage area windows, I'd say it looks identical.

Install Tailcone After FF?

Sorry to revive such an old thread, but this is the most relevant thread I could find on this topic.

The RV-10 checks a lot of boxes for me, but I dismissed it because of my small workspace...

That's great news about OSH22. Hopefully Vans provides some pics before then.

I'd love to be wrong on this, and I do hope they have an actual aircraft at Airventure 2022. However, based on their announcement video from last July, Rian Johnson said "... we will be done before...

Osh

My money is on Vans having a cartoon illustration for Oshkosh 2022. Customers who have already paid money, and have been waiting in the queue, take priority over the RV-15 for which Vans made almost...

Probably No Flying Aircraft for Osh 22

I agree. They could at least provide basics of the design which should be locked in by now since they supposedly have the wooden mock-up done. If the mock-up is done, they should know how many seats...

Couldn't you do the same with the 172 Skyhawk? If I'm not mistaken, the older 172s built back in the 175 era are almost identical firewall aft, and include the same fastback fuselage. Some 172 models...

Crashworthiness

Interesting theory. Your odds of survival are certainly better at lower impact speeds. Depending on how rapid the deceleration, structure still plays a big part. If Vans decides to put a full wing...

Iím the 182RG guy you keep referencing out of context. I think Iím more tolerant of a realistic speed range than the STOL crowd seems to be. I have no problem going slower than my 182RG Ė Iíve said...

Sonex High Wing

The Sonex series is interesting, but it's hard to get over the fact the fuel tank is right above your legs. I don't know what the safety record is. I know Ercoupe had the same design.

Sonex says...

Even though I’d have no use for a STOL aircraft (at least I don’t think I will), I’d be perfectly fine with one, providing cruise speed isn’t crippled. The issue I had with the STOL enthusiasts was a...

Bump up the cruise speed by 10 to 15 mph and I would agree with you. There seems to be two camps of people on these RV-15 posts: one wants to shift the RV speeds lower to meet their STOL desires, and...

Itís hard to say if Vans would entertain a Rotax. They did it with the RV-12, and I donít think there are any regrets. The Rotax shows promise in...

The strutted high wings generally have more room by design because the spar carry-through is minimal. The headroom region is squared-off, giving more left to right room vs. the low wing with rounded...
