TFR education -and avoid an F16 escort

He fellow Rv'rs here's a short video of what you should know if you have an F16 come up alongside you one day while your flying along. You might be in a TFR or a HOT restricted area. I don't know about where you fly, but out here in the Westcoast TFR's pop up almost on a daily basis. Not only in the Fire season but anytime the President comes this way.

The military calls this "Noble Eagle"

Information that I think every pilot should know.

Topics covered are:

What frequency do you use to communicate.

What do you do if he rocks his wings?

How to know to follow him safely out of a presidential Temporary Flight Restriction.

Very informative video, thanks for posting. Hopefully, in the event of an intercept, everyone will be as calm and cooperative as the pilot who gave us those basic hints.

My last call prior to engine start is to FSS to ask only about TFRs along my VFR route because I want it on tape somewhere that I was told that they either not a factor along my route or properly considered and planned for.

Now that political campaign season is over, they don't "pop up" that much. The presidential TFRs are really no secret. TFRs in general as well as the permanent SFRA in DC are more of a nuisance than a major restriction.

I haven't experienced an F16 or helicopter escort. Don't plan to, so I try to stay informed. At least now I know what those on the other side of the fence have to say.

Fly safe,

Mike

Since you may be on your last flight, may as well have some fun with it.

Turn into him, call all shots on gaurd, and when in doubt put your lift vector on him and pull.

Or if in a Navy H-60 like i was, you start slowing down while asking if he recognizes the haze grey paint scheme. Around 120 kias he started waive ring and left. Just friendly ANG harassment. :).

A good H-60 crew can make life very hard. Respect!
