Great. We need to know how much beer to order. Use the poll.

You'll take it seriously if we run out of beer :(

sprucemoose 07-09-2012 10:42 AM

Hey Dan, here's a two-bird idea:

In order to receive a beer at the social, you must have with you both your copy of the NOTAM and your parking sign. No papers, no beers.

Still building and not flying in you say, and no need to have these things? Hogwash, it's never too early to develop good habits. Bring them along anyway.

airmel 07-09-2012 01:38 PM

Follow DanH's instructions for the "head" count...

How about you must present a copy of the poll on this thread showing you have voted your beer count?

Ricatic 07-09-2012 02:10 PM

Deb and I will be by but we are not beer drinkers...so we will bring our own "soft" beverages...not flying but driving in on Saturday for the week...

What will we need to get in?????:D:D:D

Regards

Paul Walter 07-09-2012 03:07 PM

Count me in

rvsxer 07-09-2012 04:20 PM

Christer S. and I will be there. Pretty nice way to "decompress" after a day in the SteinAir booth...

DanH 07-09-2012 10:27 PM

As of tonight the poll is up to 544 servings of tasty beverage. I shall inform the beer fairy that we'll need a fourth keg.

Burt 07-10-2012 10:47 AM

My Dad & I will probably have 2 maybe 3...Sounds like some good brew!:)

fatherson 07-10-2012 12:47 PM

Two coming, none drinking. Tyson and I will bring a cooler full of soft drinks.

ppilotmike 07-10-2012 01:08 PM

4 kegs enough?

I see that the poll dictates 4 kegs, but Dan, how did you account for the 4+ beer people? With the hundreds coming, let me remind you that many of them REALLY like beer (i.e. Military veterans, Aussies, Southerners and people crazy enough to build their own airplanes)...

Should be a great time Monday Night, and awefully quiet in the HBC Tuesday morning...:D

XOverZero 07-10-2012 01:54 PM

Dan H: Can't help but wonder...

Could any amount of beer make that fairy start to look good? Hoo-weee!:D

algrajek 07-10-2012 06:30 PM

You guys ALWAYS do this stuff on the FIRST night. Give all of us a chance to GET THERE!!!

Give 'em Hopslam...they'll slow down.

Careful now....you don't want to make the beer fairy unhappy.

Speaking of which, ya'll be sure to bring along some dollar bills for the tin cup. The Good Beer Fairy is pleased to bring joy and brotherhood to the RV clan, but the wee folk are not rich. If you stick her with the entire $600 bar bill she will no doubt call upon her doppelganger....who will visit every tent and hotel.

It would be very hard to explain the Bad Beer Fairy to your friends:

Now to important business....what shall the fourth keg be?

Please examine these choices (considering what we already have on the way, New Glarus Cow and Squirrel, and Bell's Hopslam) and offer suggestions.

http://www.bellsbeer.com/brands/#Year_Round-1

The following are available in draft:

Bell's Lager

Bell's Two-Hearted Ale

Bell's Oberon

Bell's Amber Ale

Bell's Third Coast

Bell's Kallamazzo Stout

DonFromTX 07-11-2012 08:16 AM

What, no Lone Star?

Richard@Langair 07-11-2012 08:34 AM

No chance I would miss the beer at Osh!!!

I vote for the forth to be the Two Hearted Ale, but I like hoppy beer!!!

Sounds like a good time and I thank you for putting this together!!!!

Two Hearted Ale +1

Definitely..

N8RV 07-11-2012 08:53 AM

I'd push for something with some body to it -- not some beer that looks like it's already been through the system. :D

Omega232Devils 07-11-2012 09:07 AM

+1

Will be there with +1

My grandfather doesn't drink, but don't worry I will consume his share so as to not throw off your count! :D (Am always here to help! haha)

I'd be quite pleased if there was a good stout on tap, so I'm in for Kalamazoo...

Mile High Relic 07-11-2012 09:36 AM

My vote is for the most hoppy brew they have. Even though I've been to the Bell's brewery, I'm sure I couldn't tell you which in the list is the hoppiest. If Mike and Richard say that is the two-hearted ale, that is what I would vote as well.

strahler13 07-11-2012 09:54 AM

I'll second that!

Hops rule.

e4evrybdy 07-11-2012 10:47 AM

Ahhhh... Nothing quite tap dances on the taste buds like free beer of exceptional quality. Count me in!!! Unfortunately, I can only indulge in one as we have to return to Minneapolis that night. :(

AX-O 07-11-2012 12:34 PM

My dad and I will be there. 3 beers total (vote was in last week). Thanks!

rv8builder 07-11-2012 05:00 PM

Looking forward to it.

Bell's Two-Hearted Ale

My vote is for the most hoppy brew they have. Never Had Bell's but if it is hoppy I'm sure it will be good. Can't wait for Monday the 23rd! And the rest of the week too.

NOTICE

Short version:

The Forum Building #2 location is canceled.

I have arranged our return to the SOS Brothers (under the yellow balloon), same place as last year.

Long version:

Last Thursday we approached an executive level EAA staffer about using Forum #2, as the planned Homebuilder's Pavilion in HBC didn't get done for 2012. The answer was "There is no issue with using the forum buildings after hours." We were very specific about our plans....

OK, done deal. Forum Building #2, the one closest to the Vans display tent, Monday evening starting after the airshow. No catering required. An anonymous donor is ordering draft New Glarus Spotted Cow and Fat Squirrel. Soft drinks (and any food items) are BYOB. We are responsible for cleanup; I'm camping with the airplane and rise early, so I'll check it/police it at dawn Tuesday. Cool?

.....which were accepted, and the announcement here came shortly after.

Fast forward to yesterday, Wednesday the 11th. I was asked to contact Mr. John Dorgan at EAA HQ, Manager, Event Sales and Services. Mr. Dorgan informed me we were welcome to the forum building only if our beverages were supplied as a catering package from the authorized EAA beverage service supplier, Supple Group Events, aka Fox River Brewing. No Supple Group, no building.

I contacted the Supple Group representative for a quote. The total was $1,466.85, Fox River brands only, 4 kegs with setup. In contrast, 4 kegs of our choice from the local distributor was $480 plus tax, with free support equipment. We would need to supply our own ice and cups, and haul our own kegs.

I have declined.

FWIW, we are allowed to bring food and beverage into the camping areas. I have declined that option also. We cannot put 250~300 people in an HBC campsite without disturbing campers who wish to sleep, and we're not going to be "those people". There are also issues like seating and weather.

Sorry guys. I had hoped to offer a nice get-together in a semi-private location, with better beer at little or no cost. It's not worth arguing about; we'll take the high road and hope for a dedicated pavilion next year. Until then, it's a bigger and better private SOS beer tent for us. The four Sosnoski brothers are good guys.

scard 07-12-2012 05:37 PM

I don't care where it is. I'm just coming to see your big happy smile Dan :). [ed. Me too! dr]

Ricatic 07-12-2012 05:46 PM

...now that irritates the daylights out of me...but it comes with little surprise...and EAA gets yet another black eye...

Still...happy to see there will still be an event...we will still be attending

Regards

Rick

sprucemoose 07-12-2012 05:49 PM

I'm still voting for 4+.

Ironflight 07-12-2012 06:16 PM

Given the available information - good decision Dan. No reason to fight 'just to fight' - this is a war that can not be won, at least not at this point. It is simply another illustration that what we attend in Oshkosh in July is "Airventure Incorporated", not a "member fly-in".

I'll be at SOS Brothers this year - not a terribly long walk/crawl from HBC.....

DITTO, Who in the pilot group only drinks two beers.... really?? Given the size that this event is quickly turning into, this should be a better option. We leave in one week for Wisconsin and plan to be at KOSH Sunday morning. May the weather Gods smile on us all. :D

Ricatic 07-12-2012 06:26 PM

seeing that we are "soft drink' users...we can ride our scooters right to SOS...guess that is one good thing....

Rick
