Congratulations Paul.....but hey, send Louise up!
Everybody together now SEND LOUISE! SEND LOUISE! SEND LOUISE! SEND L..... (and then can I go next?) |
Congratulations. special plane for special people.
12/10 is always a special day around here, as it was our 32nd anniversary. |
Wonderful
My congratulations to both of you. Looks like a delightful and capable little airplane. I'm sure it will be a great and well rounded performer with your engine/prop selection. Best I can say is 'good luck', enjoy your new airplane, and be careful. Well done:)!

glad to see you back posting Rick, I hope this means you are recovering well. I wish you the best this Christmas season.
|
We appreciate all the many congratulations, and are humbled that so many have found this project as exciting as we have. I hate to single anyone out, but dang, it's great to see Rick Gray posting again - it's a long road Rick, but we all know you're going to run it to the end!
I now have a grand total of two hours and thirty four minutes of RV-3 time....and can't wait to get more. I thought I'd flown responsive RV's before - there is no discernible motion of the stick in normal flight - light and nimble (and this is NOT a lightweight example of the breed) - and quick! Organizing some pictures now. |
CONGRATS
Well, I'm late to the party.... again. Take a few hours off from the computer and see what happens. ;)
Big time congrats Paul and Louise, and of course....Junior. It doesn't seem that long ago you told all of VAF you were starting an -3. It feels like we were all in the room during the "birthing" process. ps....Welcome back Rick. |
Fantastic. Thanks for sharing your progress as you built. You guys did a great job and are very inspiring. Enjoy!

Photo album
Our good friend Ernie Butcher took some great photos on the ground yesterday and this morning and then generously shared them with us. I've put them into a Picasa album at: https://picasaweb.google.com/1030281.../JuniorPhase1#
The album starts with pre-First Flight preparations and briefing, followed by departure, landing, and post-First Flight prepartations. Since Ernie wasn't with us for the 2nd Flight departure or landing, that flight isn't documented. The last group of photos show Junior's departure from its off-field landing site this morning, the planes third flight. |
Congrats to the both of you!!
Did I miss something? What is this off field landing stuff? |
See other thread....

Awesome! Congrats to the entire team!
|
Magic!!!! Well done you two.
I am fighting another war at the moment and it is going well. I shall be looking with anticipation for further updates. Tony |
Congrats Paul and Louise. Awesome job on the RV-3.
|
Congratulations !
with a bit of nostalgia ;) |
Here's a future thought
Enter it in the AirVenture Cup race this year (if there is one - always a question). You would be in a class that has very few entries and Bob Vassey would appreciate seeing another RV-3 to compete with. The race should be from Mitchell, South Dakota to Oshkosh (actually at a nearby location with recovery at Fond Du Lac and group arrival at Oshkosh). Bob is a veterinarian from Iowa I believe and every year he flies his red RV-3 (he previously built a scaled down P-51) in the big race.

Paul and Loise, congrats and good job! Welcome to the rather exclusive fraternity of RV-3 drivers, you've made us proud!
|
Well, I'm a little miffed that neither of you called me before the first flight for some aviating advice. :D
Congrats, you two! Your project sure has given me pause to think about someday building an open cockpit runabout. Let's see... Smokey took me 13 years ... I might get it in before I turn 100. |

I rarely post here as I am not a RV builder or owner. I own and run an auto repair shop and have since 1981. I have been a ASE certified master mechanic since 1978. When I work on cars I am often interrupted. I have a personal rule. Nothing gets installed halfway. Don't allow anything to "look" finished unless it is. For example I will not walk away from a car that has lug nuts on but not tight. Never leave yourself a "trap". This partially installed fuel selector arm was what I consider a "trap" The arm should not have had a screw installed unless the job was finished. Tape the screw to the handle until the loctite is on.
I congratulate all involved in a safe outcome. It is great that others can be warned and can learn. |
