Tire Quality Question

Just curious to know if anyone experienced this:
Yesterday while mounting the tire on the front wheel, I noticed that cracks were developing on the side wall during inflation at around 20 psi. There were two locations affected on the same tire. I have pictures at:

I, of course, have referred this to VANs and am waiting for their answer.

Check out of round too

My mains were 3/8" out of round. Did not even fool with balancing. I will replace them as soon as I master the landings. ;)

I've been told that as tires age, the sidewalls can become cracked. You may want to check the manufacture date of the tire. Your sidewalls look to be age-cracked.

http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tirete....jsp?techid=11 This site tells how to check the date of manufacture.

My understanding is that if the sidewalls are cracked, it can lead to catastrophic failure.

My 2?, FWIW.

Update: I have been asked to ship the bad tire back to Desser Tire (in Montebello, Ca) for inspection. As there is little doubt that this is a fabrication defect, a new tire was shipped, all this at no cost to me. I will check the date of fabrication of the two remaining tires with the info you provided.
