OzRunways EFB

Thanks Newt. Looks to be the way to go. Too bad Pocket FMS have been a little slow in taking their software to the Ipad.

It does the moving map thing (on all of the above maps) if your iPad is GPS-equipped, so you need the 3G version.

If you touch an airport on the map you get its ERSA entry, which is also handy.

It's a bit hard to see with a bubble canopy on a blue day, but if you can keep the sun of it it's indispensable.

I hadn't come across OzRunways EFB before........bloody brilliant.

All Ipad need to do now is release a sunlight readable screen and they'll start popping up panel mounted everywhere!!!

Thanks

(North American friends: Lake Eyre is a dry salt bed for about 29 out of every 30 years, fed by a river system which would drain nearly 20% of mainland Australia if it ever rained there, which it usually doesn't. There were massive floods in the North-Eastern part of Australia six months ago, which are still draining into the Lake Eyre basin now, meaning it has more water in it now than it's had for a generation. Parts of central Australia that are usually arid desert are blooming with wildflowers, seabirds are breeding 300 miles inland)

The lake is below sea level.

Mark what's the status of Lake Eyre now? What would be the best spring month to visit the area?

Hi Vlad,

You can keep an eye on the status of Lake Eyre here Lake Eyre Yacht Club

We have had a heap of rain inland over the past few months and plenty of flooding. The farmers should be growing rice!

September / October is usually pretty windy on the east coast, but unsure about that far in.

Sorry, the photo is not Lake Eyre, but central NSW in "flood" (Also flying something slower then the RV!)

It's funny: I said it's dry for 29 out of 30 years, but for the last ten years it's flooded four times.

Each flood takes over a year to dry out, so it's been at least ankle-deep in parts for a long time now.

Best time of year would be near winter, when it isn't 48 degC. So I'd pick early spring rather than late spring.
