Exhaust coatings

I was wondering how many people are flying with exhaust coatings, what their experience is so far, and what other people think in general?

exhaust coverings

My exhaust was wrapped in some kind of cloth when I bought the airplane. About the first thing I did was take it all off. I had to send the exhaust back to Larry Vetterman last summer. He remarked that a couple of the down tubes had been seriously overheated at some point, and strongly recommended that airplane exhausts should not be wrapped or coated. The problem is they overheat. They are built of much thinner tube than car exhausts and need to get rid of the heat.

Long way of saying, my advice would be to leave it bare stainless.

My Vetterman exhaust seems to be perfectly happy with no wrap or coating. 85 hrs and about 12 mo operating. Looks fine.
