Kitplanes article
There is an article in the April 2010 Kitplanes titled Designing Men ( I guess I should question the title) by MIke Manning who has 30 years experience in upholstery. It is the first of ? articles in a series on sewing or even gluing your own seat covers. I have long been an advocate of doing my own interior. It is a lot of work, but very rewarding. I read the article with avid interest. This months issue covers materials and equipment. Unfortunately the meat of the how to do it will be in a future issue. However, if you have ANY interest at all in doing your own seat covers, make certain that you get this months copy of Kitplanes (page 43-48). The neat thing about creating your own seat covers is that you can customize them to your airplane without additional cost although additional time is required.

there was a thread or someones build web page that had some excellent photos of do it yourself foam for seats. I could only find this thread, which is mostly about buying the supplies:
http://www.vansairforce.com/communit...ad.php?t=14256 edit some other links: http://www.vincesrocket.com/upholstery.htm i thinks this was the person that i was thinking of, but the photos were in a different format. anyway, scroll all the way down to the bottom for the colorful foam: http://www.myrv3.com/Fuselage.html many thanks to fellow vans member Don (flytoboat) to helping me find it: http://www.vansairforce.com/communit...highlight=foam a very cool thread |
old links to making your own seat cushions
Here is an old link that has two ways to make your own cushions.
http://www.vansairforce.com/communit...ad.php?t=18862 I am more than curious to see how the professional does it. I learned pretty much on my own. I went to Alexander Aeroplane (since bought out by a/c spruce) and their upholsterer showed me all the correct products to use. Thanks for the compliment Pierre! |
